Mythology

Briareos and his brothers Kottos and Gyes were Storm Giants with fifty heads and one-hundred hands each. The three were first sons of Gaia and Ouranos who were thrown into Tartarus. While in Tartaus, they were hoarded by a dragon lady named Kampe. When The Olympians were preparing to fight The Titans, one of the first things they did was kill Kampe and release the Hekatontries who were skilled masons the most talented being Briareos. Towards the end of the war Briareos and his brothers used all of their arms and threw boulders at Mt. Orthys burying it which led to the beginning of the end for the Titans such as Atlas, Hyperion and most importantly Kronos.

The Iliad

Briareos is mentioned in Book One lines 402 & 403 of The Illiad telling about how when the Olympians led by Athena, Hera and Poseidon sought to bind and shackle Zeus, Briareos set Zeus free and sat by Zeus acting as a bodyguard of sorts.
