Koios (Ancient Greek: Κοιος), which is Latinized as Coeus, is the Titan lord of the North. Koios is the Titan of Resolve and Intelligence, and the embodiment of the celestial axis around which the heavens revolve. He married his sister Phoibe Titanid of Radiance and Prophecy. Phoibe bore Koios Lelantos Titan of air, Leto Titanis of Motherhood, who bore Apollo and Artemis, and Asteria Titanid of Astrology.

Mythology[]

Although Koios does not have an active role in Ancient Greek religion, he was important through his children, Leto and Asteria, whom he had with his wife and sister, Phoebe. Leto was one of Zeus' lovers and gave birth to the twin Olympians, Artemis and Apollo.

Koios and his wife, Phoebe, both possessed the gift of prophecy, as Koios was the grandfather of Apollo by Leto and Zeus (as well as the grandfather to Apollo's twin Artemis) Koios passed down the gift of prophecy to Apollo who would take over the oracle of Delphi. Koios is generally considered to be the wisest of the Titans, his intellect combined with the gift of prophecy could possibly be the reason that the Titans lasted so long in the war against the Olympians. In the end Zeus, Poseidon, Hades and their allies defeated the Titans and cast them down to Tartarus.
