The Hekatonchires (meaning hundred handed ones) were triplets (Briareos, Gyes & Kottus) storm giants with one hundred hands and fifty heads. They were the children of Gaea and Ouranos. They were thrown into Tartarus by their father because of their ugliness. After the Titans had dismembered Ouranos, Kronos freed them following advice from Gaea. As they were masons they built Kronos' palace at Mt. Orthys. Eventually however they began to annoy him so he sent them back to Tartarus and appointed Kampe to guard them. When the between the Gods and the Titans occurred, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades freed the Hekatonchires and recruited them to fight with him.
