Not much is known about Kythonios but his name is in the mentioned in a speech given by Gaia to her sons the Gigantes goading into attacking. In the speech, Athena is referred to as "Brighteyes" and Aphrodite is called "Kythereia" which is a lesser used name that she was occasionally worshipped as.  The only place Khthonios appears is Nonnus, Dionysiaca 48. 6.
