Killed by:

Medusa was the gorgon who was killed by Perseus.

Mythology Edit

Birth Edit

Medusa was a Phorkyide, born to the marine god Phorcys and ocean goddess Ceto. She had two older sisters as well, Stheno and Euryale. Despite being born to two gods, she was born mortal.

Becoming a Gorgon Edit

Medusa was a beautiful maiden but was a high priestess in the Temple of Athena in Athens, sworn to be a virgin. However, but when she was caught being raped by the Lord of the Sea, Poseidon, while worshiping in Athena's temple, the enraged Athena transformed Medusa's beautiful hair to serpents and made her face so terrible to behold that the mere sight of it would turn onlookers to stone.

Death Edit

Perseus was ordered to kill Medusa by the evil King Polydectes because he wanted to get rid of Perseus. On his way, he was stopped by three gods. The first was Athena who gave him a polished bronze shield. The second Hades, who gave him his Helm of Darkness which could turn the wearer invisible. The third Hermes who gave him his winged sandals and a sword made by Hephaestus. Perseus, now loaded with gifts, went to the cave in which Medusa lived. He used the helm to sneak into the cave, past her sisters and used the shield to see her reflection rather than actually looking at her. Doing so allowed him to slice off her head. Right when this happened, Medusa and Poseidon's child burst out in the form of a Pegasus.

Medusa's head would be used to turn the Kraken to stone before he could consume Andromeda. Athena asked for the head, and she was given it. She fastened it to the shield, and it would become the Aegis.
