Mint is a plant sacred to Hades. Its origin comes from a story with a naiad named nymph. Minthe was a naiad associated with the river Cocytus. Hades had an extra-marital affair with Minthe. Because she had attracted the attention of Hades, Minthe claimed to be superior to Hades' wife Persephone. When she heard of this Persephone transformed Minthe into a plant. Because of Minthe's association with death, mint is used at funeral rights.
