Polemos was the personified spirit (daimon) of war and battle. He is very similar to the Olympian war god, Ares. He is the husband of Hybris (Reckless Pride). During a period when all the gods were being wed, Polemos decided it was time for him to marry as well. He was the last of the bachelors, and Hybris (Reckless Pride) became his wife, since she was the only one left without a husband. Polemos's affection for Hybris was so strong that he still follows her everywhere she goes. Polemos was also the father of Alala, the daimon of the war-cry. His Roman counterpart was Bellum.
